"Cover me in Stardust" collection starts today….

It has been a while since I posted up new music. I’ve been developing the Golden rabbit blueprints and in the process, re-discovered some of my influences and favorite artists. I’ve never been one to do covers before but………..I’ve enjoyed re-creating them in a G.R fashion so I will be releasing one a week throughout March every Bunday, erm, I mean Monday……..starting today.
Thought it would be a lot of fun and a good way to introduce myself to the world.

The collection is called “Cover me in Stardust”. As it is an introduction to Golden Rabbit, each track has been chosen to represent more than one of my influences, as I will explain through the weeks.

I have made them all myself and so they are not perfect, not even close, so forgive me my faults! They are my interpretations and not meant to be exact replicas.

I will be hand crafting some physical copies in my wondrous crafting studio, so give me a shout if you would like one. They will also be available to download for free on http://soundcloud.com/goldenrabbit and live performance videos will follow on here http://www.youtube.com/user/GOLDENRABBITuk.

"We were stardust at the start, and we will leave the way we came." - G.R

lovely lovely song. I really enjoy singing this one! “True love will find you in the end” (featuring Puffycat on backing vocals!) x

Thought I’d share some of my vintage outfits with you all…………

Starting with the ones I wore through out my “Cover me in stardust” E.P live videos……….

The dress in my a cappella version of “Silent all these years (excuse me)” is a cotton, green plaid dress, with matching belt, puffy sleeves and white collar and cuffs.  I’m not exactly sure when this dates from but it feels ‘70’s/early ‘80’s. There’s something quite school girl-ish about this dress I like!

It is by Allen Solly (based in my old haunt of Nottingham) and they are still going today …. http://www.allensolly.com/brandsite/
 and I’m still liking them.

Some more of the vintage outfits I wore through out my “Cover me in stardust” E.P live videos……….…………

In the “True love will find you in the end” (Daniel Johnston/Beck cover) video I wore a classic vintage Laura Ashley victoriana blouse and a ‘70’s print skirt, featuring a cheeky peacock! The writing on the label has worn away on this one so I couldn’t tell you where it is from.

It feels like quite a unique piece though, and a classic example of the Golden Rabbit style.

Here is a little video I made on a flip camera for the song ” Angel plantation”……

"Angel Plantation" hand-made greeting card…..
I also made a fabulous handmade card to go with ‘Angel Plantation’…… a rainbow rabbit pinwheel! It’s like taking a rabbit for a walk:0)
As always, it was the prize of a competition to mark the release of the song.
(Background music “Out at Sea” by Ursa Minor (Little Bear)

Join Golden Rabbit on facebook and twitter to hear of the next competition for the upcoming “Poohsticks” release.

Time for another vintage outfit I wore through out my “Cover me in stardust” E.P live videos……….…………

This is from the “Into the night” video:

This glamourous satin nude dress was quite possibly once a night dress! A delicate piece with no labels, it may well be handmade. Cut on the bias with the bust detailing, it has a lovely 1930’s feel to it.

I gathered many fine vintage pieces on Ebay (before the vintage hipster boom made it impossible to find a bargain anymore!) but I found this in a second hand shop on Blackstock Road in Finsbury Park a few years ago. I was very pleased!

The best places to search now for unique and not over-priced items I find, are in vintage and second hand shops across the Midlands and north England. But you will need a very keen eye.

I’m a sucker for a headpiece and enjoy ‘making’ my own but this black feathery, silver glittery peacock was found in a hobbies and craft shop in Somerset. I think he may have been an intended christmas decoration, but I offered him a life in the performing arts and he ran with it!

Topped off with little lace gloves (although not vintage lace this time), I enjoyed putting this one together very much.

This is the last outfit from my covers videos (I didn’t do a video for the Radiohead cover unfortunatly, it will happen one day:0)

For the “Droplet Affection” Ursa Minor (Little Bear) video, I wore a stunning emerald green, silk vintage dress with flower detailing. I’m not sure what the technical term is for this effect - it is imprinted within the material, but it is NOT a print! Feel free to enlighten me.

This was another magical find back in the eBay heydays. Now you have to scrutinize the search list at un-earthly hours just to find anything vaguely unique and a bargain. It can be done though, you just need patience, a keen eye and nerves of steel for the last second bidding!

I adore green and found this dressmakers hem to make the headband with.

See the dress in action in my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n4BDQUptAQ

(which also includes my Abyssinian kitten)

So, I blogged the vintage outfits from my E.P, thought I may as well carry on!…..

This is from the “Angel Plantation” video….a cream lace dress from the ‘80’s, with it’s very own chiffon wings!

Made by Your Sixth Sense, it could almost be used as a alternative to a wedding dress, with it’s full, netted skirt and boned bodice. Being from the ‘80’s, it even has shoulder pads.

I wore vintage cream chiffon gloves to finish it off.
