Part 4 of the ” Cover me in Stardust” covers collection ……”Into the night”

Julee Cruise’s “Floating into the night” is such a delicate and haunting album. This was my favourite song from it. I fell in love with it after Twin Peaks had infiltrated my life and mind. Twin Peaks was also my introduction to the world of David Lynch. These three have influenced my creativity ever since, both sound and vision.

I didn’t have a plan when I set out to record this. I always find that the story and feel of the song, evoke a visual narrative in my head, like a movie. I then try and re-create the emotions and feelings of the ‘film’ in my mind - through sound.

When I write a song on the guitar, it is the feeling that comes first. And the story and ‘film’ come later. So by the time I get to record, the ‘film’ has developed and that leads the way.
As you can see, songwriting and recording are very different processes for me. And that is partly why I found the “Cover me in stardust” EP so interesting to do!

Mine and Mr Lynch’s obsessions….

I too am obsessed with old industrial buildings and this makes me adore this man even more. I turned around at the bus stop today and a ‘Lynch-a-like’ was stood right behind me. I took a short sharp intake of breath, just in the hope that it was him. I then imagined that it was him all the way home as I sat a few rows behind him on the bus.  I don’t care if that is weird. David Lynch has been weirding me out for a very very long time. http://www.dazeddigital.com/photography/article/18954/1/david-lynch-s-factory-fantasyland image
